Singapore 1990’s Cartoons
I had a sudden urge to look into the old cartoons that i have seen before, thus i racked my brains during a production to think of those cartoons that still hold dear in my mind. I’m not going to talk about cartoons that are still currently alive because that will make no sense since everyone knows about it anyway.
So instead i’m showing 4 of the cartoons that we kids of that generation watch with enthusiasm, it’s on channel 5 because we had no money for cartoon network and that Mr. kids central was not yet created at that point of time.
First one up will be…
Street Sharks
The Street Shark’s about these 4 brothers being mutated by an Off Centre scientist to create Mutated Shark humans. They have stupid names like Ripster, Jab, Streex and Big Slammu. I have a serious thinking that this names were influenced by the growing black culture during the era. “Yoooo Nigggga”
You get the drift Yo? It was really cool though for the show to be able to portray such ugly beings with such positive spirit. I have a feeling it was created by some naturist freak though.. who the hell will create a hero that has the face of a shark, and enemies that are local delicacies?
AND why the hell must they be so freaking ripped? An encouragement to steroid usage?
Wait theres more!! Who can forget about The Killer Tomatoes?
Its like the lamest and coolest show at the same time can?!? First of all who the hell would mutate a bunch of tomatoes? I would create mutant dogs like those of resident evil you know?Undead bitches actually sounds more interesting then killer tomatoes. Though the unexpected idea, the show was actually quite interesting none the less.
I still remember about the fact that Dr. Gangreen never fails to exclaim should someone call him a “mad scientist” , “angry!! i’m an ANGRY scientist!” he would exclaim.
Its damn stupid lar, and i just realised that this cartoon was actually an abaptation of a film of the same title.
The Attack of the killer tomatoes (The Movie)
So cool right? haha wait still got more. The next will be Double Dragon!!
Its about 2 kungfu fighters who got weapons from their master, magical swords that give them a face mask whenever they need to fight; well they get hand and leg guards too but who the fuck cares right?
Also they have a green tattoo of a double headed dragon on their chest. See! Even martial arts practicians also got ang kong one ok! Scareded right?
Alright, last but not least…
CAPTAIN PLANET
who can forget about this savior of the earth man?! I remember using ring pops and imitating the members of the gang with my cousins going “Earth! Fire! Wind! Water! Heart! and togetherrrr we’re Captain Planet!!”

Its a pretty good album with its natural Asian flavours being blended in with some of the more westernised “live band” tracks. The usual love tracks and hip RnB tracks are still available none the less, nothing has changed in that part.
陽光宅男 Sunshine Homeboy (Yang Guang Zhai Nan) sounds alot like a traditional english pop band though. Both the beats and the rhythm sounds alike. I could safely assume he got the inspiration from there i guess.
蒲公英的約定 Dandelion’s Promise (Pu Gong Ying De Yue Ding) reminds me of the Japanese real life story turned series, one litre of tears. Just the beginning though, check it out on youtube or crunchyroll to see the show online.
Thats about it, great album. Great thoughts being placed though none of the really powerful songs that you will remember straight away unlike that of Orange Jasmine (Qi Li Xiang
